Often mistakenly called “adult acne,” rosacea is a completely different condition than acne. Patients may experience flushing, dilated red vessels, pimples and pustules. Usually patients have a genetic tendency for the redness, but there are usually several factors that trigger a flare of lesions. Dr. Sadoff reviews these triggers which include:
Hot, spicy foods
Hot (temperature) food or beverages
Hot emotions, such as anger
(Get the trend here?!)
Hot environments, whether it is outdoors, or in a hot yoga studio
Even if you can’t identify any of the above triggers praying a role, there are medications that can reduce the redness and pimple-like lesions. These include topical medications and low-dose antibiotics, where appropriate. Dr. Sadoff will offer a treatment plan for the rosacea flares as well as for maintenance.
